Pastor Timothy’s vision of a church that interacts with God rather than sings and talks about Him is exactly what Exaltation Church is. Coming from a Baptist upbringing and training in undergraduate schooling, Pastor Timothy found God directing him to organize and grow a Sprit-filled church distinct and unlike the traditional Pentecostal or Charismatic church. He realized that the evangelistic strengths of the Baptist church along with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit described in Acts 1:8 would develop supernatural soul winners needed in today’s culture. He and his wife Debra, whom he met in college and later married, along with their daughter, Meredith and her husband David, knew the timing was right for such a church in the Richmond area.
“Anyone can be a preacher,
but it takes love to be a pastor”.
Pastors Timothy and Debra offer a wealth of ministry experience. Having worked in churches of 150 to 5,000 and ministered with people such as Don Moen, Ron Kenoly, Larnell Harris, Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, they understand the importance of excellence in ministry. Their diverse ministry experience includes Christian education of children, youth and adults. Pastor Debra’s undergraduate minor in elementary education has given her the know-how to develop a thriving children’s department. Her communication skills were honed while working in public relations for CBN and other corporations. She knows the value of the working relationship between the church and the world. Pastor Timothy’s varied ministries in worship, vocal and orchestral direction, youth and Christian education have enabled him to know what it takes to develop and grow a loving and exciting church. His music experience ranges from having led small ensembles to conducting 50-piece orchestras and 300+ voice choirs, experience which only reinforced his gift of organization and administration, further equipping him with strong leadership skills necessary to become a successful senior pastor.
“I knew there was more to church than just
turn in your hymnbook to 395.”
Surrounded by an educated and experienced board of elders, the Whitworths strive to lead a church that is known by its enthusiastic people, exciting music and great anointed preaching. These three elements are what make a great church.

Pastors Timothy and Debra’s ministry vision includes a Biblically-based and fun Children’s Church, a non-boring, exciting Youth Ministry, a vibrant young adult ministry for singles and couples that helps them find their place in life, catering to young and established families that need help in raising children and giving places of honor to older adults who can teach and train with their years of experience in their Christian lives.
Pastor Timothy says, “Anyone can be a preacher, but it takes love to be a Pastor.” And Exaltation Church people and the pastors have that love relationship.
